Pictures vs Photographs, See the Difference for Yourself!

When I approach potential models to participate in The Great Model Search I often hear in response that they just hate how they look in pictures. This is very often because all they have ever seen is themselves in “snapshots” or pictures they have taken themselves either in a mirror, or with their cell phone held in an outstretched hand. Who could blame them.

I make photographs, not pictures and the difference is as great as that of a cup of grape juice vs a glass of fine wine. Both begin as grape squeezings but there the similarity ends. One is bottled within minutes, the other is handled with great care, blended and aged until its perfect. A snapshot is a click in time, a photograph is a story told in light and shadow, ambience, camera angle, body position, and a photographer's eye and skill with the camera and in post production.

Here are some examples of participants in The Great Models Search, with a “snapshot” from their tagged photo page and some examples from their GMS photo shoot. I am immensely proud of all these women, those who have “turned pro”, and those for whom their GMS photo shoot will be their only time in the lens of a professional fashion/glamour photographer.

Take a look at the amazing before and after transformations. No professional make-up artists or hair stylists were on set when the GMS shots were taken.
